LEED® Green Building Rating System guides City of San Jose projects
In June 2001, the San Jose City Council approved Green Building Guidelines with an implementation goal of a "San José LEED®" Certified rating for new construction and major retrofits of City facilities and buildings over 10,000 gross square feet of occupied space, effective with the FY 02-03 budget. In 2003 the City retained a consulting team of LEED® Accredited Professionals - Sharon Refvem, AIA and Bonnie Thomas, ASID of Hawley Peterson & Snyder Architects and Jo Carol Conover, Principal of Bennington/Conover & Associates - to assist several project teams in achieving the "San José LEED®" certified rating.
Among the current projects are the following:
- Camden Community Center
Registered for LEED® certification through the U.S. Green Building Council, the project is currently under construction and is targeted for completion by the end of 2004. It will feature numerous materials with high recycled content, low-emitting materials to ensure good indoor air quality, daylight and views throughout the building, and energy-saving features designed to greatly exceed Title 24 requirements. The building's systems will also be commissioned by an independent third party commissioning agent to ensure peak performance.
The project team consists of The Steinberg Group (Architect), Arntz Builders, Ahearn, Knox & Hyde Structural Engineers, Cooper Preuit Engineers (MEP), Ruth & Going (Civil Engineer) and Engineering Economics, Inc. (Commissioning Consultant)
- Mineta San Jose International Airport - North Concourse
This project, currently in the design phase, is registered for LEED® certification through the U.S. Green Building Council. The project team includes Gensler (architect), Flack + Kurtz (MEP), MKA (Structural Engineer) and URS (Civil Engineer).
- Roosevelt Multi-Service Community Center
Under development and registered for LEED® certification through the USGBC, this 31,000 sq. ft. project is located in San Jose, CA. The design team consists of Group 4 Architecture, Research + Planning, Inc., Rumsey Engineers Inc. (MEP), and O'Mahony & Myer (electrical engineer).
